Leg
Also: Section, Stage
A larger part of a rally, often one day or the section between two time controls.
A leg is a larger part of a rally. At multi-day events it usually means one day, for example "Leg 2: Salzburg to Kitzbühel". Some roadbooks also use the word for the section between two time controls.
What a leg contains
A leg is made up of road sections and scored tests. On a road section you follow the roadbook to the next control. There is a target time for it, usually a generous one. In between you drive special stages, where every second counts.
Terms are not standard
What counts as a leg differs from one organiser to the next. Some call each day a leg, others each section between two time controls. In German the word "Etappe" covers both. If in doubt, check the regulations or ask at the drivers' briefing.
In practice
Plan fuel stops and breaks before each leg. Write down the target time to the next time control and the official time at which you are due there. That way you always have some slack for a wrong turn.
