Historic vehicle
Also: Classic car, Vintage car, Historic car
An older vehicle preserved in historic condition. At rallies each organiser decides which years of manufacture may enter.
A historic vehicle is an older car, motorbike or other vehicle that is kept largely original or properly restored. In German-speaking countries it is called an "Oldtimer".
When does a car count as historic?
There is no single limit that applies everywhere. The FIVA defines a historic vehicle as one that is at least 30 years old, preserved in a historically correct condition and not used as daily transport. National rules for historic registration differ from country to country. Younger classics are often called youngtimers.
Historic vehicles at rallies
For a classic car rally, the entry rules are what matter. Some organisers only accept cars up to a certain year, others welcome younger classics or have separate classes. There are often classes by age, and a coefficient can balance out the age of the car in the results.
Before the rally
Check your car thoroughly: brakes, cooling, tyres, lights. An accurate odometer is worth its weight in gold at a regularity rally. If your speedometer lacks one, a fitted tripmaster or a GPS-based solution can help, as long as the regulations allow it.
