Roadbook

Also: Route book, Road book

The roadbook describes the rally route step by step, with distances, directions and controls.

The roadbook is the written description of a rally route. It guides you step by step along the course, usually with distances, direction diagrams and notes on controls.

How a roadbook is laid out

A classic page is made of rows. Each row describes a point on the route: total distance from the start, the distance since the last point, a diagram and a note. The diagram is often a tulip diagram. Navigation sections may also use Chinese signs, herringbones or map extracts.

What you find in it

  • Junctions, turnings and landmarks
  • Start and finish of regularity tests with the set average speed
  • Time controls, passage controls and breaks

Learning to read it

For the roadbook distances to match your own trip meter, you need to calibrate it first. Our guide to reading the roadbook shows how to follow it row by row without losing your place.

Rally Co-Pilot can take a photo of a roadbook or average speed table page with its AI roadbook scanner and turn it into stage sections with distance and target speed. You check every section before it is imported.
