Passage control
Also: PC
A passage control only checks that you drove the set route. The time you pass usually does not matter.
A passage control (PC) checks that you drove the set route. Unlike a time control, it usually does not care when you arrive, only that you pass by.
How to spot a passage control
A passage control can be manned or unmanned. At a manned control a marshal stands by the road and marks your time card. Unmanned versions include boards with letters or numbers that you write down yourself, or a stamp control. Some passage controls are shown in the roadbook, others are deliberately hidden.
Missing a passage control
A missing entry counts as leaving the route. Depending on the regulations this brings heavy penalty points, often far more than a few seconds of timing error.
Tip
If you take a wrong turn, go back to the route instead of cutting across. Sections that look tempting to shortcut are a favourite spot for hidden passage controls.
